Making a house a home

It was at approximately 9am this morning that a massive Pickfords lorry turned into our road with all our shipping from the UK. The lorry was double the size of the one that had come to pick up our stuff back in Bath. It has been a total of 4 months now in transit and not everything made it in one piece.  The earlier worry over the 'missing' bike however was unfounded. 92 boxes in total were dragged up the stairs and deposited in our living room, which suddenly didn't feel so big any more. I ticked the boxes off on the list as they came, while B made a start at unpacking them.

Most of the contents has arrived intact, but the casualties include one large white candle stick, the Indonesian lady, the Hawaiian dancer, a glass demijohn, the arm off of one lamp and the head off another and finally the glass from the frame of a tapestry my mother made.  I'm not sure how much we will be able to claim on the insurance for the breakages, but we have taken photos of all of them as proof.

A lot of items, mainly some of the larger pictures have had to go back into storage in our garage as we have nowhere to hang them as we are not allowed to put extra nails in the wall, and to be honest I doubt the walls in this place would be strong enough anyway.  B is currently busy organising his ornaments after a quick stop for lunch, it is a shame we both have to work tonight as there is no way we will get this finished in the next hour, we haven't even begun to look through the boxes of clothes yet.  Still it feels good to know it is all here at last and it definitely helps make the place seem more homely.

The next step to making the place more comfortable will be the delivery of our new sofa which should be within the next two months (we are having it custom made).
